POC King and Queen of the Hill

K&Q page

Sunday 27 May 2012, Glentress //
Event start: Peebles Hotel Hydro

TweedLove is stoked to present a new all-mountain enduro style race for Britain’s best trail centre.

We’re delighted to be working with POC – Swedish royalty when it comes to bike kit, to put together this race – it’s the headline gravity-enhanced event for TweedLove 2012.

The format:

All-mountain, TweedLove style. Timed stages on great trails around Glentress, featuring some cracking natural lines and some of the best man-made riding anywhere. You have to complete all the sections – tough climbs, massive descents and linking stages – and your worst stage result will be dropped from your overall result. Points are awarded depending on your finishing position for each stage, and the riders with the highest totals wear the crowns. After all, to be the King or Queen, you’ve got to rule the whole hill!

Practice is allowed, on certain sections only, the afternoon before and other stages will only be announced on race day – these will not be open for practice beforehand. The race hq, start and finish is at the legendary Peebles Hotel Hydro, who have some special offers on accommodation – but limited number of rooms available in offer so be quick.

Riders will have to make their way to the top of the hill, via a combination of timed and linking stages, and then come back down via more race and link stages. If you’re experienced in these events, you’ll find the course a lot of fun with some sweet and technical sections of trail to deal with at speed, but the event will also appeal to riders who are keen to have a try at this style of race – you’ll have a blast either way and can choose which sections to smash and when to ease up a bit. You can only ride each section once, and there’s an overall time limit you have to complete your ride within.

‘Aye, a brilliant day… an absolute blast, the course was pretty inspired…Two thumbs up!’ – Rider’s post on Singletrackworld.com

Held for the first time in 2011, the GT7 was an immediate success. A great course using some of forest’s best man-made and natural riding, combined with a fantastic event village and a very friendly atmosphere.

A seven hour mtb race for individuals and teams of two or three, with the emphasis on great trails and a ton of fun – the route will feature some fantastic trail riding, and normally unavailable sections of great singletrack. The event is aimed at all levels of mtb rider, and you can go as hard or easy if you like. (Early grapevine news suggests there’ll be some stiff competition for the win in 2012!)
